Positano
“Pearl” of the Amalfi Coast, it is a true corner of paradise, characterized by a myriad of colorful houses in typical arabesque style, with white vaults and domes, perched on the green mountain that slopes down to the sea. Alleys and steps cross the upper part of the town until reaching the beach.
A center of fashion and shopping with its numerous boutiques, Positano offers tourists typical local products: hand-painted ceramic objects, leather sandals, lace dresses and skirts, bikinis in fabric with colorful and cheerful patterns.
Positano today is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world for its extraordinary beauty, the many historic buildings transformed into hotels, have welcomed artists and writers in search of peace and tranquility.
The director Franco Zeffirelli, the dancers Leonide Massine and Rudolf Nurayev chose it as their home, fascinated by this land.
History
According to an ancient legend, Positano was founded by Poseidon, the God of the sea for his beloved Pasitea.
Land loved by the Romans who chose it and built a magnificent villa right near the Marina Grande beach, whose remains were recently found under the Church of Santa Maria Assunta.
The Roman Archaeological Museum "MAR" offers a short journey through the remains of the ancient Roman villa where you can admire spectacular frescoes in Pompeian style.
The Beaches
Enjoy the beaches: relax and sunbathe on the beautiful beaches of Positano: Marina Grande, Fornillo, Arienzo and Laurito.
Take advantage of the crystal clear waters to swim or go kayaking.
The beach of Marina Grande is the seaside center of the town and the nightlife square, which hosts numerous bars, restaurants and beach resorts.
The beach of Fornillo, more intimate and private, can be reached from the "stradina degli innamorati" that from Marina Grande runs along the sea and the old Saracen watchtowers.
The beach of Arienzo enclosed between two high cliffs covered with vegetation, can be reached from the road by a long staircase or from the pier of Positano by boat by sea.
The beach of Laurito is the most exclusive and fashionable frequented by those who love privacy and tranquility, easily reached from the structure through the staircase of Via Laurito or by sea with the private boat of the Ristorante da Adolfo that leaves from the pier of Positano.
Other beaches along the coast can only be reached by sea.
We recommend private boat trips to explore the coast full of inlets, beaches, coves and sea caves.
Walking and getting lost in the picturesque streets of Positano is a unique experience, short tours are organized by local guides to discover panoramic views between the colorful houses.
To visit the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, located in the heart of Positano, famous for its Byzantine-style majolica dome with the depiction of the Virgin inside.
In the surrounding area, the two rural villages of Montepertuso and Nocelle offer tourists a breathtaking view of Positano up to the Faraglioni of Capri.
